As with all of the Colombian coffees we’ve sourced from our friends at Arango Specialty Coffee, we are very impressed with and excited about this newest offering!
Coffee is traditionally processed in two ways- natural or washed, meaning it is either dried within its cherry or pulped (washed) and dried with the fruity mucilage removed. El Naranjo is a White Honey processed coffee, meaning that the coffee was dried with a percentage of the fruity mucilage still in tact. The honey process does not involve any honey, but refers to the sticky mucilage that is left on the coffee during the drying phase. This method lends itself to a balance between the bright, clean flavors and feel of a washed coffee and the round, softly sweet notes of a natural! El Naranjo exhibits a rich, full body, with pronounced depth of flavor while remaining clean and vibrant. We find it to be fruity, with notes of purple grape and dark berry, semi-floral, and with a rich maple-like sweetness. If it’s been a while since you’ve had a Colombian coffee, give this a try and find out why this country is historically one of the most highly lauded producers!
From Arango Specialty Coffee (importer)- “El Naranjo began over 35 years ago as just a vision. Evelio invested in an untouched lot and worked very hard to clear the land and eventually plant coffee. He was working double duty during this time as he was also employed at other farms in order to provide for his family. After watching his dream come to fruition, Evelio hopes that his children will continue his legacy and produce coffee at El Naranjo in the future. For this reason, he continues to look for opportunities that will allow for sustainability and improved quality of life. It is important to him that his children and El Naranjo are successful for generations to come.”
